General Information

Attendance

The Education Act governs all enrolment and attendance. All non-attendance must be explained. The preferred method of notification is via our SMS system HERO, however, a brief phone call, e-mail, or facebook message to the kura or a message sent via another student will save a phone call from the school to ascertain the whereabouts and safety of your child. Please phone before 8.45am.

All students are expected to attend school every day the school is open. If for any valid reason your child or children need to be absent from school for any other reason other than family commitments or illness, please notify the kura.

Homework

Homework supports the kura curriculum. It provides a link between kura and home and assists in reinforcing good study habits. Parents will be briefed by their kaiako in regard to homework requirements.

Karakia

Karakia are held each day 8.50am – 9.00am. All parents are welcome.

Hui aa kura are Tuesdays 8.50am-9.20 and Fridays 2.10-2.45

Lost Property

Clothing and footwear are collected and stored in a basket if left outside. It is displayed each week at assembly and if it is not claimed they are offered to those children who wish to take them. Please name all children’s clothing.

Money sent to Kura

If money is required for anything at school, a note will be sent home detailing the amount required and explaining the purpose of the charged expenses. All money should be enclosed in a sealed and named envelope, with the amount written clearly on the outside beside the pupil’s name.

Parent Involvement

The Kura has an open-door protocol for parents / caregivers coming to visit their children. As a courtesy though, please make an appointment if you wish to discuss your Childs progress and arrange a mutually suitable time. It is inappropriate to “pop in “and expect a teacher to stop what they are doing and talk with you during class time unless it is an emergency.

We really are enjoying the growing level of support given by parents and many staff would welcome your offer if you wished to be a parent help.

Marae Hui, school trips and camps, sporting, cultural and academic events and other school activities are good opportunities for your involvement. Parents are actively encouraged to support their child through attendance, participation, assistance with transport and supervision. There is always plenty of notice about these activities / opportunities in the school Panui.

Reporting to Parents

We invite any whanau to make an appointment with the class teachers if there is anything in the reports that they would like to discuss.
Parents are encouraged at any time if they have any concerns to contact the class teacher for a korero, instead of waiting for the formal interview time so things may be looked into promptly.

A comprehensive written report is issued at the end of each school year. This and any other reports will be based on formative and summative assessment practices.

Welfare of Children

Children are not to leave the school grounds at any time during the day unless a note or call from the parents has been given.

Parents of children who are going to be late or absent should notify the kura office first thing in the morning. This can be done personally or via a note, or phone call.

We ask parents to ensure that their children are at school on time and able to start classes at 8.50am. Any pupils not at school at this time are recorded as absent and parents are called to ascertain their child’s whereabouts and welfare before 10.30am.

If children are going to be picked up by anyone other than their caregivers, we must receive a written request or a phone call. Without either of these we are unable to release the child. This also applies if a child is going to a different drop off point
